Advance Search

EDX's Advanced Search allows you to combine search terms by setting specific parameters for your results. Typically, search results are smaller and more relevant than results from the basic search.

Use logical operators to enhance your search capabilities

  • Use the "OR" operator by using || between terms to combined both searches.
For example: res_format:"XLS" || res_format:"XLSX" will return all submissions that have either xls or xlsx.
  • Use the "AND" operator by using && between terms to get the intersection between each seach.
For example: res_format:"XLS" && res_format:"XLSX" will return all submissions that have both xls and xlsx.
  • Use the "NOT" operator by using ! before a term to get everything but that term.
For example: !res_format:"HTML" will return all submissions that have no HTML resources.
  • Use the "MINUS" operator by using - between terms to get everything from your first term minus everything from your second term.
For example: res_format:"HTML" - res_format:"XLS" will return all submissions that have HTML resources without XLS resources.
  • You can group terms together using parentheses.
For example: (title:"oil" || title:"gas") && res_format:"XLS" will return all submissions that have oil or gas in the title that have a XLS resource.
