NAM
The North American Mesoscale Forecast System (NAM) is one of the major weather models run by the National Centers for Environmental Prediction (NCEP) for producing weather forecasts. Dozens of weather parameters are available from the NAM grids, from temperature and precipitation to lightning and turbulent kinetic energy. The NAM generates multiple grids (or domains) of weather forecasts over the North American continent at various horizontal resolutions. High-resolution forecasts are generated within the NAM using additional numerical weather models. These high-resolution forecast windows are generated over fixed regions and are occasionally run to follow significant weather events, like hurricanes. The NAM homepage is an excellent source of information for how the model is configured and run, and an excellent source of forecast products. The Continental United States (CONUS), 12km resolution, gridded data are available for download through NOMADS.

Japanese 25-year Reanalysis (JRA-25)
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) and the Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI) jointly conducted the Japanese 25-year Reanalysis (JRA-25) project. The reanalysis covers the 26-year period from 1979 to 2004, and provides consistent and high-quality data.
NCEP/NCAR Reanalysis
1: Summary We have transitioned the data files from netCDF3 to netCDF4-classic format on Monday Oct 20th. Temporal Coverage: 4-times daily, daily and monthly values for 1948/01/01 to present. Spatial Coverage: Global Grids. CFSR global atmosphere resolution is ~38 km (T382). Levels: 17 Pressure level and 28 sigma levels. N/AUpdate Schedule: Daily
RA-Interim is a global atmospheric reanalysis from 1979, continuously updated in real time. The data assimilation system used to produce ERA-Interim is based on a 2006 release of the IFS (Cy31r2). The system includes a 4-dimensional variational analysis (4D-Var) with a 12-hour analysis window. OSCAR (Ocean Surface Current Analyses Real-time) is a global surface current database that contains near-surface ocean current estimates, derived using quasi-linear and steady flow momentum equations. The horizontal velocity is directly estimated from sea surface height, surface vector wind and sea surface temperature. These data were collected from the various satellites and in situ instruments. The model formulation combines geostrophic, Ekman and Stommel shear dynamics, and a complementary term from the surface buoyancy gradient. Data are on a 1/3 degree grid with a 5 day resolution.
