Dr. David Alumbaugh, Ph.D., an esteemed member of the SMART Initiative, stands out as the recipient of the Reginald Fessenden Award from the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (seg.org). This accolade, formerly known as the Medal Award, is bestowed upon individuals who have made remarkable technical contributions to the field of exploration geophysics, such as an invention or a theoretical or conceptual advancement which merits special recognition. The SEG Honors and Awards Committee provided the following description of why Dr. Alumbaugh received the award:
“David Alumbaugh is recognized with the Reginald Fessenden Award for his contributions to the field of electromagnetics. He has proven his leadership in technology development and practical usage of electromagnetics in wide application areas from fossil energy reservoir fluid characterization and monitoring to geothermal resources development and carbon capture and sequestration. He has also done work on Control Source Electromagnetic (CSEM) imaging of the Earth’s subsurface as well as multi-physics data integration and machine learning. Alumbaugh’s pioneering work in electromagnetic characterization and imaging of the Earth’s subsurface as well as multi-physics data integration is well documented. He is the author/co-author of over 60 peer reviewed publications, seven book chapters, and has 14 US patents.”
Congratulations to Dr. Alumbaugh as he accepts this award at the SEG/AAPG 2024 IMAGE conference in Houston, Texas, during the last week of August 2024.
