NRAP Tools

In 2016, NRAP released a set of computational tools to help address key risk performance questions at geologic carbon storage sites across a project’s life cycle. These tools received recognition from the Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum, and were awarded a 2017 R&D 100 award.

Building on the NRAP Phase I toolset, NRAP researchers have developed and continue to refine a Phase II toolset with improved functionality. In Phase II, NRAP has adopted an open-source paradigm for new risk assessment tools to foster their adoption and further development by the CCUS RD&D stakeholder community. Tools from the NRAP Phase II toolset fall into three topic areas: ensuring containment effectiveness/quantifying leakage risk, managing induced seismicity, and strategic monitoring design for uncertainty reduction.
