Git, Software, and Tools
Recently, EDX launched a Git repository listing feature within EDX workspaces that allows researchers to easily organize links to externally hosted Git repositories. Most researchers that are familiar with Git repositories already have their code hosted in a commercial repository. Rather than re-host the code on EDX this feature allows researchers to organize their gits regardless of which external hosting option they are using. This is a first step in a plan to further enhance the features and functionality within EDX to support a true virtual laboratory

EDX also promotes the publication of publicly hosted Git repositories. The workflow is similar to any other EDX public submission workflow with the exception being the selection of data type as “Tool” instead of “Data”. Upon completion of the required metadata fields the contributor can add the link to the Git repository on page 2 of the contribution form.
