Mechanical testing of oil shale from Utah's parachute Creek Member provides data to evaluate the 3-D non-linear coefficients of the stiffness matrix. Experimental and sampling techniques, which are generally applicable to non-linear transversely isotropic materials are discussed in detail. Comparisons are made against oil shales from Wyoming and Colorado.
