Other (Open)

The Chattanooga-Ohio-New Albany Shale outcrops of eastern Kentucky comprise only a small portion of over 800,000 square kilometers (500,000 square miles) (Provo, 1977) of black shale deposited during the Middle Devonian to Early Mississippian. These shales extend from as far south as Alabama northward through New York and into parts of Canada.
