ANALYTICAL METHODS FOR OIL SHALE WASTES

During the last two years several methods of chemical analysis have been developed for oil shale wastewaters and gases. Emphasis has been placed on methods which are rapid, simple, and able to perform well under field conditions. Species which have been studied include total solutes, total N total S, ammonium N, SO4, NO3, S230, ScN ,SO3, Cl-, NO., and sulfide in wastewater; and total S, H2S, COS. CH3,SH, CS2SH , CH3,CH2 SH, thiophene, propyl mercaptan, and butyl mercaptan in retort gas.
