"The feasibility studies reported here were undertaken upon the request of Morgantown Energy Technology Center to investigate the potential capabilities of modern Curie-point pyrolysis mass spectrometry (Py-MS) for oil shale and kerogen characterization The combination of novel Curie-point pyrolysis approaches, e.g., time-resolved Py-MS. with powerful computerized data reduction and evaluation methods enables a more detailed analysis of the mechanisms and kinetics of vacuum micropyrolysis processes in oil shales and oil shale kerogens. It should be pointed out however, that the analytical procedures described in this report are still highly experimental and should be regarded as an attempt to demonstrate the basic principles and the overall feasibility of the proposed approach rather than as an attempt to obtain precise kinetic data."
