Recent oil and gas discoveries in southwest Wyoming and northeast Utah have created considerable interest in the Nugget Sandstone. Successful exploration efforts require an accurate knowledge of several formation parameters, inching depositional environment and digenetic history. Information presented in this paper includes a study of the various types of cements in the Nugget and their chronology. Depositional environment is also discussed, along with its possible effect on diagenesis. This paper only briefly outlines the diagenetic and depositional framework of the Nugget, but as additional drilling takes place a more detailed history of the Nugget should emerge.
