To help find solutions to problems in obtaining gas production from channel sandstones in the Greater Green River Basin in Wyoming, we studied outcrops of equivalent rocks in three areas: Rock Springs Uplift, Hoback Basin, and Cretaceous Mountain. Formations studied were: Paleocene (Ft. Union equivalent), Hoback, Lance, Mesaverde (Hoback Basin), Ericson, and Rock Springs. Besides a photographic survey of channels in the areas, detailed measurements were made on 25 channels. About 80 structural elements (parallel inclined and trough cross beds) in each channel were measured for height and dip orientation. The most comprehensive data was obtained on the Rock Springs Formation.
