The EGSP New York No. 1 was part of the resource characterization efforts of the DOE/METC Eastern Gas Shales Program. Early coring and logging operations were conducted as joint efforts of a group of geologists representing DOE/METC and a group from Cliffs Minerals. The METC geologists supervised the coring, Birdwell's logging, and Schlumbergerls logging; the Cliffs Minerals team handled the assembling, the strapping, and the description of the cores. These efforts were completed in September 1978. The project was reactivated during June and July 1979, when Gray involvement began. Gruy's limited participation in the project consisted of supervision of Dresser Atlas logging.
