Environmental aspects of a commercial oil shale operation

Colony Development Operation (Atlantic Richfield Company, Operator) is currently engaged in a $17 million field program to investigate the feasibility of shale oil production on a commercial scale. This paper discusses the research effort directed toward the environmental aspects of such an operation, including air and water pollution, processed shale vegetation, and land use planning.
