EVALUATION OF LEACH TESTING OF FOSSIL ENERGY WASTES

The leaching characteristics of fossil energy wastes are very important because, in the US, the mechanism of disposal of solid wastes is controlled by the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976. Simply stated, wastes are classified as hazardous or nonhazardous by a variety of tests and permissible disposal options are governed by the results of the tests. The criteria used to evaluate the hazard potential of any waste are given in Table 1.
