Other (Open)

The objectives of this activity are to explore and define specific candidate regions of the Fruitland Seam in the San Juan Basin for underground coal conversion to clean fuels. This seam now serves major market areas in Arizona and California with surface conversion technologies. New term projections suggest that major emphasis for underground conversion should concentrate in the San Juan. The primary site for this technology development has been identified by the Public Service Company of New Mexico and Western Coal Company. LSAL has been working with PNM and the University of New Mexico in preliminary studies to determine the applicability of UCG for this coal seam.
