Gas hydrate research, one of the new research efforts in DOE's program on Unconventional Gas Recovery, is focused on the basic sciences related to the formation and dissociation of naturally formed gas hydrate deposits. The research goals are: (1) to determine the extent and nature of the natural gas hydrate resource, and (2) to develop methods to extract it for a future gas supply.
