IDENTIFICATION OF NOCTYL CYANIDE IN IN SITU SHALE OIL

At the US ERDA's Laramie Energy Research Center, research on the composition of shale oil has been conducted for a number of years. A fraction of shale oil, which had been produced in our Site 4 in situ field experiment, was examined by Infrared, PMR, CMR, and mass spectral techniques and was found to be at least 85% n-Octyl cyanide admixed with alkylnaphthalenes.
