"America has an abundance of low rank coal resources. These coals can be gasified to meet a variety of needs for gaseous fuels and chemical feedstocks. In situ gasification is a serious contender for early commercial development, and lignite is a premier coal for gasification. This report is the result of a comprehensive study to evaluate the potential for underground coal gasification (UCG). The analysis covers not only the technology of gasification, but also the evaluation of specific coal deposits."
