"The condensed thiophenes are of interest in the research program at the Bureau of Mines Laramie Petroleum Research Center because they occur in shale oil and petroleum. Analysis by infrared spectroscopy of the oils or fractions of the oils for condensed thiophenes requires knowledge of their characteristic vibration frequencies. This report presents a discussion of the spectra of condensed thiophenes in which the structure includes at least one benzene ring."
