Reported literature procedures for the isolation of the kerogen fraction of shale seldom give enough specific experimental details. Therefore, one is left with the task of working out the details concerning amounts of reagents, time requirements for various steps, proper equipment and other facets of the procedure. This paper attempts to provide these details and other observations accumulated during studies of kerogen isolation at the Morgantown Energy Technology Center.
