Large block experiments operational plan

License(s):

Other (Open)

The large block experiments were originally conceived of as a series of burn cavity growth tests in large, isolated blocks of coal that could be opened up for inspection after each burn was completed. The concept has been modified to be more economical by using an exposed coal face in a mine rater than separate blocks. Although the name "Large Block Experiment" is no longer quite so descriptive it has been retained since it does serve to emphasize the experimental, almost laboratory nature of these tests.
