License(s):

Other (Open)

The purpose of this paper is to show that oil shale is an energy resource which can be developed on a small scale. This will be done by enumerating the occurrences of small oil shale deposits, worldwide, and the petroleum reserves they represent. It then details a retorting process which is designed to utilize the low grade shales that are typical of small deposits. Finally it will be shown that the economic environment is now favorable for small scale oil shale development.
