The Superior Oil Company, the Sohio Oil Company, and the Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company proposes to construct and operate a shale oil production facility in Garfield County, Colorado. This venture is termed the "Phase 1 Pacific project" and would have an initial production capacity of about 18,000 barrels per day of raw shale oil. The proposed facility would consist of an oil shale retorting module, an associated room-and-pillar mine, and necessary auxiliary and support facilities.
