License(s):

Other (Open)

Phenols of industrial importance will be available from the processing of oil shale to produce liquid fuels, The organic oxygenated compounds present in the thermally created shale-oil naphtha were predominantly phenols and these constituents were removed from the naphtha as a secondary product in the refining operations. The crude phenol can be purified essentially according to established methods used for the separation and purification of phenols derived from coal carbonation processes.
