This report covers the first quarter of activity on an 18-month project to prepare low-rank coal (LRC) fuel for research applications in DOE advanced combustion technologies programs. During the period, five coals, from Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and North Dakota, were obtained from operating mines and amenability tests begun to determine their suitability for production of low-ash micronized LRC and LRC-slurry fuels.
