PROGRESS REPORT ALUMINA FROM DAWSONITE IN OIL SHALE WATER LEACHING

License(s):

Other (Open)

The work described in this progress report was done to determine if the alumina content of the dawsonite in oil shale is water-extractable. Natural dawsonite, synthetic dawsonite, and oil shale containing 6% alumina in dawsonite were extracted with water. The range of conditions tested included no retorting and retorting at temperatures between 500 and 700C. The shale was then water leached at temperatures up to 195C. The highest extractions, 45% of the dawsonite contained alumina, were obtained when shale, calcined at 600C for 2 hours was extracted with water at 100C.
