PSRI semi-circular fluid bed modeled with MFIX-Exa

MFIX-Exa was used to simulate PSRI's semi-circular fluidized bed with 1 mm ceramic particles. The bed is operated at incipient fluidization with two high-speed gas jets providing additional fluidization near the front of the bed. The CFD-DEM simulation models the jets with a flow-on-EB boundary condition and a calibrated Wen and Yu (1966) drag law. Particle data is saved within the first 10 particle diameters from the front of the bed and rendered into a photo-realistic animation with the open-source 3D creation suite, Blender (blender.org).
