The Kimmeridge Clay stretches across England and outcrops in Dorset Norfolk and several other counties. Bands of oil bearing shale occur in the Clay, and also appear in many of the outcrops. The mining of the shale on a large scale would require deep mining and would probably be too costly to permit the economic recovery of the oil.
