RESULTS OF BIRD AND MAMMAL STUDIES, AUGUST 8-11, 1972, WESTERN COLORADO

The results of a three-day census in August are only partially representative of the wildlife o the areas studied. The bird breeding season was past and no effort was made to trap for mammals. Also, birds tend to move to higher elevations later in the year, giving a false impression of greater abundance in the high country than is actually the case during nesting. The following comments and recommendations are based not only upon census results, but also on a more general evaluation of the areas as potential wildlife habitat. The list of animals observed is in Section 2. Recommendations based on these observations are listed by segments in the following subdivisions of Section 1.
