In the Fischer assay method for evaluating Green River oil shales, approximately 66. eight percent of the organic matter is converted to oil, 9 percent to gas, and 25 percent to coke, the latter remaining on the spent shale, Variation from this average assay conversion with grade of shale is illustrated in figure 1 on which are plotted also published data on conversions to oil obtained in several pilot-plant retorts.
