Woodward-Clyde Consultants conducted an Order 1 soil Survey on Section 15, Township 18 N, Range 106 W, approximately 7 miles west of Rock Springs, Wyoming during August 1978 for the U. S. Geological Survey and the U. S. Department of Energy. The purpose of the oil survey was to delineate, describe and sample different soil types within the study area so that the potential interactions between soils and the oils and waste waters produced from in situ oil shale retorting sites can be assessed and assess the suitability of the soils delineated in the area to be affected by in situ oil shale retorting for topsoil to be used in reclamation.
