The constitution of Colorado oil-shale kerogen was studies by conducting a qualitative organic examination of relatively simple or identifiable degradation products derived from it by degradative chemical action. By this preliminary study it was hoped to provide some qualitative data which would indicate, even though in a highly fragmentary manner, some essential characteristics of its total constitution and structure.
