The growing concern for the solution of some of the applied problems of our day has manifest itself rather conspicuously in the last couple of years. It was probably inevitable that request and challenges were to be made to the scientific community that they consider the solution of some of these problems. The work in this thesis is due, in part, to a response of these requests and challenges.
