Semicontinuous supercritical gas extraction (SCGE) with toluene as the extractant is carried out on Fushun and Maoming (China) oil shale. The work includes a description of the extraction technique utilized and characterizations of extract and of extracted shale. Physical properties and chemical composition of the shale and of the SCG extracted shale are determined and presented.
