Objectives: 1) To develop an understanding of transient borehole failure; 2) To predict the transient borehole failure by modeling the rock behavior at the grain level using a discrete element concept; 3) To develop a computer simulator to simulate the transient borehole failure; 4) To verify the model with field data.
