The fundamental objectives of the present research are: provide a data base of the principal thermo-physical properties of tar sands and constituents; examine existing theoretical and empirical predictive models for these thermophysical properties and, if possible, recommend predictive methods for calculating these properties. This objective is important for future analysis of potential sites and techniques; study two-phase flow behavior, especially in low porosity media, and provide a data base of relative permeabilities in United States tar sand formations; and perform analytical and numerical studies which are directed toward an understanding of the implications of the measured physical properties.
