"The purpose of this test was to determine the crushing characteristics of an oil shale which was received from the U.S. Department of Interior, Bureau of Mines, Rifle, Colorado. Three drums of oil shale were received which weighed 1400 pounds. The Shale ranged in size from 10 inch pieces to 3 inch pieces and had a specific gravity of 2.18. The tests that were performed on the oil shale included impact and compression tests as well as crushing tests in the 10 by 7 inch Blake jaw crusher and the 322 Hydrozoa crusher."
