"The purpose of this test was to determine the crushing characteristics of an oil shale which was received from the U, S , Department of Interior, Bureau of Mines, Rifle, Colorado. Three drums of oil Shale were received which weighed 1400 pounds. The shale ranged in size from 10 inch pieces to 3 inch pieces and had a specific gravity of 2,18. The tests that were performed on the oil shale included impact and compression tests as well as crushing tests in the 10 by 7 inch Blake jaw crusher and the 322 Hydrocone crusher."
