Results indicate that all the oil shales are low to moderate in thermal maturation. In particular, this is evident in the oil shales from Nova Scotia where associated coal seams have much higher reflectance, in the order of 100%. Spectral fluorescence measurements on the maceral aliginite might give a more accurate indication of maturation levels in oil shales.
