Other (Open)

In most older U.S. oil fields water is injected into the reservoir to move the oil to producing wells. In many formations, however, waterflooding is limited by reservoirs that are segmented into isolated compartments by variations in the reservoir rock. Water injected into these fields is often difficult to control and may fail to sweep efficiently through the formation, leaving behind significant amounts of unproduced oil.
