The Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982 assigned to the DOE Office of Civilian Radioactive Waste Management (OCRWM) the responsibility for disposal of high-level waste and spent fuel. A significant activity in the development of the Federal Waste Management System (FWMS) for accomplishing this assignment is integrating the components of the FWMS (mined geological repositories, waste generators, near-term storage, transportation and a possible MRS facility) will constitute an efficient, safe and timely waste management system. A major element in accomplishing this objective - and the subject of this task plan - is Waste Systems Data and Development (WSDD) which involves collection of data and development of capabilities which concern more than one component of the FWMS.
